Red Bull Ministry: Boosting Your Productivity (Kurt)

One of the questions we are often asked is: How do you get it all done? To be honest, no one gets it all done. But we have come up with a few techniques over the years to help us squeeze more into each day. This week we want to take a little time to help you boost your productivity.

Get plenty of sleep; eat right; and exercise.

I know you’ve heard this same speech ever since you were in junior high health class…but the advice hasn’t changed! Few things boost your energy, and thus your productivity, like taking care of your body.

Find your “peak time.”
Are you a morning person or a night person? When does your brain “turn on”? What time of the day do you typically have the most energy? Use this time to focus on the most important tasks…the things that require you to be on your “A” game.

Find your “valley time.”
Take everything I said in the previous paragraph…and reverse it! Lots of people do the mundane, routine, less-important aspects of their job during their personal “peak time,” when it could probably be just as effectively accomplished during the time of the day they aren’t at their sharpest. 

Because I’m a morning person, I try to write my lessons, have important meetings, and do strategic thinking before lunch. Then I crunch budget numbers and return Josh’s emails in the afternoon when I’m half asleep.

End today by thinking about tomorrow.
Consider developing the habit of spending the last 20 minutes of each day planning and organizing how you will spend your time tomorrow. Having a clear plan for how you are going to spend your day is a simple way to boost your productivity.

That stuff sits in the pit of your stomach and…bleh. If you live in China, this tip is much tougher to implement.
