Summer Idea Lab #2
Yesterday was a lot of fun and we so appreciated the Tweets and comments with your summer ideas! Still looking for inspiration for a new idea to try this summer? We’re back today with a few more ideas. Use them as they are, or use them to inspire you for something even better!
Guys/Girls Trip
This summer we’re taking a handful of students away on an overnight gender-separate trip. We’re not sure what the girls have planned yet, but the guys will be eating pizza for every meal, with the exception being whatever you can kill and cook yourself.

We’re hoping that the shirtless, grunting fun will also break down barriers and open up some incredible life-changing conversations. Even though we don’t know the details of the girls’ trip, our hunch is it will include more shirts and fewer grunts!
Christmas in July
Want to make the middle of summer memorable? What if you brought in snow from somewhere up north and made a sledding hill? Maybe look into renting a snow machine, and if all else fails ditch the tubing and just do a White Elephant gift exchange, serve cider, and tell the Christmas story. Or for you big budget youth groups, consider renting a machine that makes “snow” out of soap….sorta like they use in Hollywood. Smaller budget, and not into snow in July? Then decorate your youth room to look like Christmas and hold a “Christmas in July” party!
Summer Break
During school you take Spring Break so everyone can have a little taste of summer vacation; what if you planned Summer Break and created some discipleship classes or made Workshop Week? It would give you a chance to change the pace of summer (even if just for a little while) and offer up some courses to help ground their faith. Quick aside: Teachers and professors are off for the summer and might be up to guest teach in your ministry, too!
