I want to comment on the last part of the article on why volunteer leaders stay longer. I know I'm a PW, but my Pastor is not my youth pastor, and I have felt "out there" twisting in the wind, on my own in my Junior High ministry. True, I have been there 5 yrs. but am fizzling. Support for volunteers is HUGE...it doesn't take much, but Youth Pastors, please do it...your volunteers are your hands and feet in places you cannot reach. They can enlarge your territory and range of ministry, or simply "enlarge your responsibilities" with their absence.

Well, this is a survey to garner a response from Christian teens, in order to aid youth groups of presumably primarily Christian teens. I'm a teen, and as youth leader I find these results completely in accordance with my feelings and the feelings of my youth group. "Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you" - putting God first in my life only means I can deal with everything else. Why would I try fix confusion about sexuality, stress, etc, etc. w/o first grasping the hand of God and establishing a relationship with Him? We are not so shallow as some presume. We're confused, but we know a relationship with God is the primary foundation.

I completely agree Chris. A survey of Christian students at a Christian camp will yield completely different results from the same survey given to students participating in a Celebrate Recovery program or random surveys taken outside a local high school. Publishing these misleading results does nothing to help the cause.

I don't agree with the results here. It sounds like the "Sunday School" answer syndrome in effect. Here is the answer I have to include...God, Jesus, the Bible. This is for church after all. It would be interesting to look at the sampling of students taken and the environment in which the study took place. Numbers can be tainted very easily. Remember 5 out of 4 people misunderstand fractions!

Hello, In response to the part of this article on youth and their parents. I found an excellent resource that explains the bible model that should be in place for churches regarding the parent youth relationship. A book put out by Mark Holmen and Focus on the Family called Building Faith At Home: Why Faith at Home Must Be Your Church's #1 Priority. This book really stresses the importance of parents taking a front seat role in raising their children spiritually even during the youth years. I thought this book may be of service to other youth pastors out there. Pastor Luke
