Dealing With Angry Parents
If it hasn't happened to you yet, it will. All of a sudden a parent wants to meet with you and they are NOT happy. You feel blindsided as they are mad at you, or the way you did or did not handle a situation. Confused, the "right" thing to do is to talk to them, even though you really want to run away. How do you talk to an angry parent? This short clip gives some practical ideas of how anyone on your team can forward in this situation. Paid, bi-vocational or volunteer- all of us have had to learn how to diffuse a potentially volatile situation while genuinely resolving conflict.
Below you'll find a sample script to practice and hand out to your team to be ready for that angry parent.
Remember, often our role in the situation is to remind the parent we are both on the same side. We want what is best for the child.
Ultimately, we want them to grow in a vibrant relationship with a living Savior.
