How to get parents and their kids talking about God...
It has always been hard to get parents talking with their strudents about God and what does it mean to live a Christian life. So I decided to send out an e-mail every week on Monday before our Wednesday meeting with the scripture reference and 3 questions they can talk with their student about, I call these "car questions." Below is an example of what I send out. I hope this can help and be a blessing to your parents!
It is my prayer and goal to get families talking and discussing about our spiritual lives with our middle school students. I want to set you the parents up for success.
Here are the 3 'Car Questions' to ask your child about the lesson for this Wednesday night. So that when you pick them up from youth group you have an idea about what we have been talking about. I would encourage you to pray for your child in the car on the way to pick them up, for guidance in conversations and openness to share. Then you may use the questions or use them as a guide for talking with your child.
5/7/08 Topic: Patience
Scripture: Romans 8:25, 2 Peter 3:9, Psalm 130:5-6
1. What was a time you have had to have patience as a family? What was the hardest part?
2. When was a time you had to have patience in your personal life?
3. When was a time your student showed patience and perseverance?
4. How can your family pray for patience in one area of your life?
May this spark some great discussions with your family! Take care and God's Blessings.
