How to Share Your Faith Using Eagles Eye
9/24/2008
In the new riveting film Eagle Eye, produced by Steven Spielberg, Jerry Shaw (Shia LaBeouf) and Rachel Holloman (Michelle Monaghan) find themselves fugitives on the run. They’re thrown together in this thriller when they both receive anonymous phone calls and messages from a woman threatening the lives of their loved ones. Using today’s modern technology, their faceless enemy predetermines their every dangerous and desperate move. Not only fighting for their lives but also for the truth behind the mad and twisted game, Jerry and Rachel continue to run from one crisis to another. We live in a message-saturated society. And while we may not be barraged by the life-threatening kinds of messages assaulting the characters in Eagle Eye, we are still being assaulted.. Christians and non-Christians alike, run into, hurdle over, push aside, and live and breathe that the messages this world sends to us. Messages such as:
The messages we buy into have a profound impact on how we view ourselves and our world. We have to learn how to label the lies when they come hurling our way and learn how to stand on the truth. What is God’s message for us? Read a few of passages out of His love letter, the Bible.
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
before you were born I set you apart;
I appointed you as a prophet to the nations. (Jeremiah 1:4-5).
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
Your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book before one of them came to be. (Psalm 139:14-16).
We serve a heavenly Father who loves us with abandon. In John 8:32, Jesus says that His “truth shall set you free.” When the barrage of messages comes at us, we need to get in His Word and read His truth. It is so easy to believe and live out this world’s lies, especially when Satan is the orchestrator of those messages. He is a liar and a thief, but he comes at us with glitter and glamour – masking the lies with beauty. Satan is good at what he does. That is why we need to know, through and through, God’s truth about us and for us.
So try using Eagle Eye and its message as a launch pad for sharing with your friends and family Christ’s love for them. Here are a few open-ended questions to get you started:
Jerry and Rachel are on a race to save not only their own lives but the lives of their loved ones. We’re in a race too - the race to save those around us before they live eternally separate from their Creator. Be ahead of Satan’s game of sending the wrong messages, get in the Word, clothe yourself with God’s truth and share, share, share the truth of God’s message of salvation with those around you!

- You are not beautiful unless you are stick-thin, have a big bust, wear only brand name clothes, and have perfectly applied make-up, at all times.
- You are not a true man unless you have big muscles, make a ton of money, drive a luxury sports car, and smell like a cologne ad.
- Saving yourself for marriage is overrated.
- In order to be loved, you need to sleep with this guy/girl.
- God only loves you if you perform perfectly for Him.

- If your friends have seen Eagle Eye, ask them if they can relate to either of Jerry or Rachel, as they run to and fro, in a seemingly pointless game of…life?
- Share with your friends some of your personal struggles with the messages that this world sends your way.
- Ask your friends if they struggle with any “lies” of this world. Listen and then share God’s truth and love for them.
