Hey Matt! I was listening to

Hey Matt! I was listening to an old podcast the other day and you said the thing about grammar and words being temporary idea holders. I loved it! Doug was critiquing an e-mail's grammar and fixing it. You said it didn't really matter much because he got the point across. I stink at grammar! As you can probably tell my my message right now. But anywho... i'm glad i'm not the only youth worker out there, that stinks at grammar. Thanks! :-)

great hearing from everyone!

great hearing from everyone! thanks for your feedback!

thanks for the grammar check... we work hard on it ... I hate grammar because I think words are just temporary idea holders...but that's just because it doesn't come naturally for me... ;)

The last point from the above

The last point from the above article is what worries me the most. I think I may get very sensitive to criticism sometimes - even though I am the one who often asks for feedback from my youth leaders - and so they seem to hold back. How does a person undo the damage that has already been done? I realise that in order to grow, we need to improve on the areas we are weak in and those are usually the areas that we pay the least attention to.

Matt, I'm exactly like you -

Matt, I'm exactly like you - it's something I really have to work hard on. 1 word of criticism cancels out 1000 positive words for me and I tend to dwell on it. I have to learn to let it go and/or see it from where it comes and what it truly means - but that's VERY hard (for me). Thanks for the great thoughts though guys ;-)

Thanks guys for this very

Thanks guys for this very timely advice. While I have been doing this for a little while, my first piece of "hard criticism" came only in the last two weeks. I felt that I handled it ok, (as I am also the “avoid and see if it goes away" type). My first action was to get advice from some of my long term volunteers who had been "with me in the trenches". Their advice was both comforting and helpful. They helped me see that while the criticism may have seemed unfair and ungrounded, it was still how things were being perceived and made suggestions on how to use the criticism constructively. They also helped me by becoming better advocates for me and the youth instead of me having to defend myself and my students solely on my own.

Hi There! I love you guys,

Hi There! I love you guys, and SYM! I get your e-newsletters all the time, and sure enough, in an article about criticism, I have to comment on the grammar that was used. I somehow wonder whether you folks purposely did this to see if/how you received comments. In the sentence "I’m a lot older and being doing ministry a lot longer. " Being doing ministry a lot longer, should have been,"I have been doing ministry a lot longer. When we "write", the impression that we make is very important. Putting sentences together with proper English is very important, as that can influence the person(s) to whom we are addressing, in a positive or negative manner. Being able to communicate in an understandable manner is universal, and there have to be standards, especially when one is representing a company. Anyway guys, we all love you, and you do a great job supporting youth ministry. Please don't take this as a "criticism." It is just a friendly reminder that English grammar is always appreciated. Blessings!
